Despite some dreadful weather about 25 hardy South Dublin members turned up for our December outing to Cabinteely Park. However, we were soon to be disappointed as upon arriving at the park's gate we noticed a large sign proclaiming 'Sorry Park is Closed Due to Wind Weather Warning'. Yes, Storm Aliyah was on the way. Not to be defeated and taking into account the season that was in it, we decided to honour the 12 days of Christmas and see if we could spot 12 different species of birds. Within 15 minutes and not moving more than ten feet from the locked gates we not only reached our target but exceeded it with a tally of 13 species as follows:
- Blackbird
- Wren
- Black-headed Gull
- House Sparrow
- Wood Pigeon
- Chaffinch
- Robin
- Jackdaw
- Redwing
- Great Tit
- Dunnock
- Blue Tit
- Hooded Crow

It was 'Short and Sweet', but was still a lovely outing and happy with our achievements we adjourned to Bramble's Cafe for some hot drinks and nourishment. This marks the end of another year of events by the South Dublin Branch, and we hope to welcome you all again in 2020 when we have many more planned. Happy Christmas from the branch committee to everyone and may 2020 be a fantastic year for you all.
